If you're looking for a life away from the hustle and bustle of Brisbane, Sunshine Coast is the perfect place for you. With its relaxed culture, friendly locals, and undisturbed atmosphere, it's no wonder why so many people are drawn to this beautiful area. From mountains and rainforests to stunning beaches, the Sunshine Coast has something for everyone. While it may be a tourist hub, there is still plenty of space for both tourists and residents to enjoy all that the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
My family and I moved to the Sunshine Coast after selling our business in Sydney. We wanted to find a place where we could raise our children that wasn't as busy as Sydney had been. After looking at the Tweed Heads, we drove along the coast and stopped in Buderim. It was the first suburb that caught our attention, mainly because it was very green, full of trees, and had hills that changed the landscape a little.
After driving along Buderim Avenue, we realized we were in Mooloolaba. We rented an apartment in North Cliff, Maroochydore, and within a week we bought a house in Buderim. We didn't even look at any other suburbs!I didn't know anything about Caloundra or any other suburb other than Maroochydore, Buderim and Mooloolaba. But when you drive around you can see all the development that is taking place.
You can feel the humidity when you walk outside - my nose would drip sweat and my glasses would fog up! Kath and I would lie in bed with the fan on and say “Oh my God, what have we done?” But after more than 15 years of living on the Sunshine Coast, we have adapted to the humidity and longer summers.Walk through Sunshine Coast Plaza and you'll notice that everyone is dressed as if they were on vacation. Compare this to Sydney or Brisbane where people dress much more seriously. The food here has improved a lot too - try Pari Bar & Grill in Mooloolaba for some excellent seafood!The Maroochy River offers waterskiing, sailing, fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and even seaplane rides. The entire coast is full of beaches perfect for surfing and kite surfing.
The interior offers mountain bike rides to waterfalls and mountaineering - you can even travel hundreds of kilometers on an off-road motorcycle through the state forests.Two weeks ago, Kath and I saw Elton John perform here on the coast - what an experience! For education there are many options to choose from - Chancellor State School has a great reputation as does Mountain Creek State School. For private schools there are St Andrews at Peregian Beach, Suncoast Christian College in Woombye (where my children attended), Matthew Flinders in Buderim and Sunshine Grammar in Forest Glen.Jasmine left her daycare center in Sydney (which was all made of concrete) and moved to Milford Lodge in Buderim - what an incredible experience for her! I was told I wouldn't win as much on the Sunshine Coast as I did in Sydney but it ended up being the opposite - I never moved here for money but for lifestyle to raise our children in a better place. You can get high-paying jobs in several hospitals, for the city council, in tourism and construction - Youi established its national headquarters here which employs a lot of staff and pays well. When we leave, we realize that it is not as nice as where we live now - but that's just part of life!.
